Mistakes New Homeschoolers Make

Thinking they have to keep their kid ahead of public school kids.

Ordering an expensive program and thinking they'll make their kid do school for the same amount of time as kids in PS.

Signing up for too many classes and events. Spending all day every week in the car driving all over. Never relaxing and enjoying homeschool.

Thinking the whole community and extended family is watching to see if you fail.

Re: Mistakes New Homeschoolers Make

Forgetting the reason for homeschooling coming from the personality of the household.
And do the homeschooling outside or next to the personality of the household.
(hope others can see what I understand in my head)

Letting curriculum control you, instead of using it how you want and making it work for you.

Re: Mistakes New Homeschoolers Make

Trying to find a group that is a good fit is awful! But not worrying about a group and just using one to meet a few people worked for us. Socializing is overrated!

Feeling the need to go into long winded explanations at the checkout counter when the clerk just asked 'oh, is he sick today?'

Or teaching their kids to give long winded answers to "what grade are you in?'

"Well, in language arts I'm in 5th grade, and I'm in 4th grade in science, and I'm doing 8th grade history." Yeah, the person really didn't care. They just didn't know what else to ask a 10 year old.
