Snakes are so cool! We were wading in a stream and saw something that looked poisonous this summer. It was between us and the shore so we let it go to shore first. :)

You were in the water with snakes? And you didn't die right then and there of a heart attack? I would have. You could have just left my body there for a burial at sea.

As kids a friend and I were playing in the creek and her brother and his friend were rabbitting nearby. (They had traps set along the creek)

As I was jumping across the stepping stones a big black snake slithered between my legs.
Jock screamed at me to freeze. (Which I promptly did) and he and Mack came charging down the hill,
Jock jumped into the water, picked up the snake and cracked it like a whip. I had snake ick up my legs!

It wasn't a poisonous snake. It was a red belly black. But it was 6ft long and I was only 10 so I was terrified. Not of the snake, but I had never seen any one pick one up before and crack it like a whip!! I was worried he'd have been bitten and I would have gotten my butt kicked for it! We weren't supposed to be playing in the creek. And Jocks mum is terrifying. She's much scarier than any stupid snake.
Jock was 15 and my absolute hero! (his little brother was my best friend growing up) I never forgot that day...

Just so you know in Africa we also do have snakes, but don't know how to get a photo here.

Just back from our sea holiday. I saw a young guy walking with a snack on a stick. Without thinking -obviously- I asked him to stop and show Ethan and I. We had a conversation and I took good photo's back and side views, nothing dangerous.

Arriving at the scene, my totally city husband saying give me the camera I'll take some. Gmpf! That guy with his stick was very busy on the middle and tail of that poor creature. We later found he worked for the resort, really entertaining and keeping the holiday makers safe.

At home when I showed and explained to my husband what he was doing, he now understands not to stand infront of snakes. It took a similar lesson for him to realise one does not step bare foot on a scorpion to try and exterminate it. Bog or small pincers!

A puff adder is what the snake was. And the man moved it from the walking paths into the bush.
